| Groups that work in cooperation with the Rockford Asthma Consortium Respiratory Therapy: In the October 2004 newsletter, our "Face of Asthma" was respiratory therapist Jim Sills, who as chair of the Respiratory Care department at Rock Valley College heads the only Respiratory Care program in the greater Rockford area. For more information about the Respiratory Care program at Rock Valley College, call the Allied Health Division secretary at (815) 921-3202 for a Respiratory Care Program application packet, or e-mail Jim. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorders (COPD): The COPD group attempts to help individuals affected by chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and similar respiratory disorders. Like the asthma consortium, they are always looking for people who are interested in COPD. Contact Colleen Felts for more information. 'Tis the season for sneezing and wheezing! Grab your hankies. For pollen counts in your area, visit the National Allergy Bureau's website. Northern Illinois Diabetes Coalition (NIDC): The NIDC is another group that works under the Rockford Health Council. Like the RAC, they have committees and attempt to help people affected by diabetes. Contact Professor Paul Burkholder (Pburkholder@uic.edu) at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Illinois Statewide Asthma Partnership. The Rockford Asthma Consortium works with the Illinois Department of Public Health to address asthma issues. The RAC is one of four major consortia in the state (the Chicago Asthma Consortium, the Suburban Asthma Consortium, and The Asthma Coalition for the Greater St. Louis Metro East are the others). We attempt to coordinate our activities with the other consortiums and to assist other communities in developing asthma programs.
